Welcome to our website!

Vivero Anones is a tropical fruit and flower farm. We grow different species of fruit, nut and flowering trees, as well as heliconias, musas, palms, and ornamental gingers. Many new, beautiful heliconia hybrids and cultivars have been produced here (we're thankful for the large number of hummingbirds in the area). A large collection of tropical orchids adorn most of our trees.

We're organic farmers, and our philosophy is based in LOVE and RESPECT towards ALL living creatures. Many plant species were added to our established collection with the sole purpose of attracting wildlife, mostly birds and butterflies.

We carry a good selection of tropical fruit trees for the local market. You may check the list of available fruit and nut trees in our Tropical Fruits page. Photos of some of these fruits appear in our Photo Gallery of Fruits. We don't ship live plants or trees, but we do ship seeds.

The list of available heliconias, gingers, and musas can be checked at the Heliconia page. Photos of some of these can be seen in our Photo Gallery of Heliconias and Gingers. The Palms page has the list of available palms.

We don't ship plants, but local delivery is available to some areas of western Puerto Rico. We ship fresh seeds of many of them; for the complete list of available seeds, please check our Seeds page. You may also want to check our eBay store, "Heliconia Seeds". We'll close our eBay store in June 2010, but you can always contact us through this website for the same quality seeds, affordable prices and reasonable shipping costs.

We've added a list of plants that can attract butterflies to the garden. It's divided into species that provide nectar to adult butterflies, and species used by butterflies as larval or caterpillar food. All are tropical or subtropical species, and many can be easily found in local nurseries. We offer seeds of some of these species in our eBay store. For the list of species, please check our Butterflies page.

For many years we offered free tours of the farm, and gave free lectures to children and college students alike about tropical fruits and flowers, emphasizing on our own tropical species. We've always stressed the need to organically grow our own food, and recycling has also been one of our most important issues. Nowadays, and for many reasons, farm tours are very limited, and we usually accept visits mostly from folks who come to pick up their plants or to collect seeds.

Visits are by appointment only, and must be scheduled ahead of time. Please email or call us first to make arrangements. Our email address and phone number are specified below. We sincerely hope that after knowing about us, you'll be inspired enough to plant a new tree!

Best of growing,

S. Ballester

Las Marías is a small, mostly rural town on the western side of Puerto Rico, part of the coffee-producing region. It's just half an hour away by car from some of the most beautiful beaches and hotels of the west. People are kind and friendly, and because population is not too big, this town is still a quiet place to live. It often rains here, so there's always lush vegetation wherever you go.  A few annual festivals are part of the local tradition, the most important of them being the "Festival de la China Dulce" that usually takes place during the month of March. There's typical "jíbaro" music, food and lots of local crafts. The water of Las Marías is considered one of the purest in Puerto Rico!
